Welcome to my car

Two weekends ago I got to spend some time on the Heather Trail in Manning Provincial Park gaping at the vistas and taking photos of the colourful wildflowers blooming on the sub-alpine meadows. Although I travelled alone, there were always people at camp or on the trails to stop and talk to, providing some company while letting me rediscover myself alone in the wild. It was an unforgettable time.

During the drive home I ran into clouds of bugs. Lots of them, leaving the windshield, hood, grill, bumper and license plate on my Mazda covered in bug guts. Time and a little rain and my windshield is mostly clean now, but the aftermath of the slaughter remains on parts of my car still.

I’m not sweating it though. Their brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, cousins and distant uncles and aunts have taken enough blood from my veins over the years. This is just returning the favour, inadvertently that is. I was just trying to get home.

The above photo was taken today at Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver after I arrived early for a photo assignment. Got a bug bite too on my right thigh while I was waiting.
